How to do the Wheel of Life Exercises

The entire exercise will take 20 to 60 minutes. First go to the “Resource” tab of this blog and open the Living in Alignment (Wheel of Life) document.

Step 1: Choose the labels that resonate for you in each of the eight pillars of life on page 1.

Step 2: On the figure, circle the number that best represents your overall level of satisfaction within each category.  “7” = satisfied; “1” = dissatisfied

Step 3: Connect the dots to see how well rounded your level of satisfaction is.  You may want to even shade in the area beginning from the center of the figure to the level you circled.   This visual image represents the degree of satisfaction you currently experience.

Step 4: Consciously ask yourself the questions below as you review each area.  There is a space to write on after the directions.   These questions are best answered if you give yourself a limited amount of time, perhaps 3 to 5 minutes per foundational pillar area.

  1. Is this what I really want?  (If you marked an area a 3 or a 10, is this what you really want?)
  2. What am I not paying enough attention to?
  3. What am I paying too much attention to? (if an area is a 10 and other areas are very low this question is  important to answer.  Alternatively, if an area is very low such as Finance it’s also an important question to ask because you may be paying a lot of attention, which is often negative attention, which creates more negative attention and action.  To shift this area to become more satisfying you will want to answer questions 4 and 5.)
  4. What will I stop doing?
  5. What will I start doing? This would be the easiest and first action step you could take right now in the direction of choosing and obtaining what you want.
  6.  What action will I take first?    As soon as you finish this exercise pick on simply action to get you moving.  Notice how you feel after you complete this action. Write it down next to the action.  The key to continue moving forward and building more passion and alignment is to notice and acknowledge how you feel.

“Finding happiness is like finding yourself.  You don’t find happiness, you make happiness.  You choose happiness.  Self actualization is a process of discovering who you are, who you want to be and paving the way to happiness by doing what brings YOU the most meaning and contentment to your life over the long run.”  David Leonhart

Example of Passion and Synergy

You are frustrated with your health and notice you spend a lot of time trying to find important pieces of health and medical information.  Then one day you are on the internet and find MyWiseGuide™.  What you wanted showed up.  Your simple action of wanting something better, and taking the simple action of getting online paid off.

Now you are at choice, you can close your browser and say, looks interesting but…and take no action.  Or you may have filled in your Wheel Of Life and noticed that what you really want is to feel ease with your personal and family’s health.  You want to be organized.  You want to feel less frustrated.  You want more time back to do what you want to do in your life.

You decide to stop procrastinating.  You decide to take one forward moving action.  Order a MyWiseGuide™.  Your next action step is simple, it’s not about sitting down and filling in the entire guide, rather you commit to  and fill in one area a week.  Before you know it your guide is complete and you feel great for having kept your commitment to yourself.

Out of this feeling good passion you re-read through your Wheel Of Life Actions, pick one more and do it.  Sooner than you know it, you have completed the list and are creating even more actions.  The actions become easier and easier and now instead of feeling like work, you look forward to taking them because it helps you feel good to life the life you want to life.  You family and people around you notice you shifted enthusiasm and want to know “what’s happened?” because they want to feel what you’re feeling.

A few months later you’re in need of some pertinent medial information for your child.  It may be as simple as his or her immunization records so they can begin school.  It takes you three minutes to locate the information with your MyWiseGuide™.  A few minutes later you are doing something, you enjoy doing such as playing a game with your child.

Instead of spending 20 or even 40 minutes feeling frustrated that you can’t find what you are looking for in the messy stack on your makeshift desk.  This also means you may spend the next couple days playing phone tag with the doctor’s office because you want a copy of the records and you keep getting voicemail.  It takes time and energy away from you daily rhythm.  You feel frustration. You do not realize what you missed (enjoyable time with your child) because it was never available to you.  Deep down inside you feel discontent and wish you could spend more time with your child.  You often find yourself asking, “Where did the day go….it just flew by and we didn’t even have time to simply enjoy it.”

In its place, because you took action, you’re wrapped up in your game and laughing with your child a few minutes after finding your information in your MyWiseGuide™.   As you hear his or her giggles you look into thier eyes and smile knowing that this is how life is meant to be and life feels good.  All because of the power of a simple exercise, The Wheel Of Life, helped you choose to take action in alignment with who you are meant to be.

“If you think you can, you can.  If you think you can’t, you’re right.”  Mark Twain.

What Part Do Belief’s Play?

Prior to doing the Wheel of Life (see the resources tab of this blog) exercise you may not have realized the beliefs and assumptions you were making about yourself and others in the world and how you expected things to be.  The clearer you are about what you value, believe in, and want, the happier and more effective you will be in having this in your life.

Your beliefs are about how you think things really are, what you think is really true for yourself, and what you expect as likely consequences is what will follow from your behavior.   Although it may not feel this way, many of the limitations you face in your life are self-imposed.  What you belief about yourself can keep you locked behind your fears or thrust you forward into living your dreams.

Once you start creating and taking action you will notice your own passion and synergy.  More of what you want shows up simply by becoming aware of your current choices and choosing to take simple, yet powerful steps that help you change your life.

Living in Alignment (part 1)

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Everyone knows that when you live in alignment with what you most value and want in your life the result is you have more passion, feel more content, and feel more alive.  The more you live in alignment with your core values the easier it is to continue to consciously make these type of choices and take actions to support them.

How can you create more passion in your life?  The Wheel Of Life Exercise is a simple yet powerful way to do this.  In this exercise, you first rank your level of satisfaction in eight foundational pillars of your life.  In the second part of the exercise, you acknowledge what is true about these areas by using a simple set of questions.  The third part of the exercise is to create simple yet powerful forward moving actions that allow you to spend your time in alignment with what you belief is most important.  Out of doing this you create more passion in life and will find yourself wondering why you didn’t take these simple steps earlier.

The eight foundational pillars are Health & Fitness, Family & Friends, Spirituality, Finance, Personal Learning & Achievement, Philanthropic Contribution, Environment and Career/Job.

Feel free to change these labels to include the values that resonate with you.  For example, the word Finance may not have significance for you but Wealth or Money does.  For Family & Friends you could choose Romance, Significant Other or, simply Family. Instead of Personal Learning & Achievement, your focus may be Playtime, Hobbies, Fun, or Social Life – which are still a personal focus on you.

The point of this exercise is not to help you have all the areas be a 10 at one time and in perfect balance. Although that would be great, it is not realistic to most.  The point is to acknowledge where you are in each of these foundational pillars, and to create and take actions that help you create a more passionate life one simple step at a time.

Taking actions that are in alignment with what you most want in life will create a deep inner happiness.  Many feel more spiritually connected.  The first step may be the hardest.  Once you start the forward moving action it gets easier as well as others seem to help you have what you are asking for in your life.  This is called alignment, passion and synergy, although some may call the entire process “life balance.”

Hello World - My Wise Guides Is Here!

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

I have some exciting news to share!  For several years I’ve been inspired by a dream that has touched my heart and soul.  Someone I greatly admire said recently “don’t die with your music still inside you.” With that thought I made a decision and took a leap of faith to make my dream a reality.  I’m delighted to introduce you to my new company – My Wise Guides – which provides tools to organize and gain instant access to your life’s critical information.  The first product available is Health File™.

The Story Behind Health File

If you’re like me your health information is scattered in file boxes in my attic as well as three different states.  Besides that my doctor, dentist, gynecologist, and optometrist all have different files on me.  No one has my complete history so because of that I have a responsibility to take an active role in managing my own healthcare.  By being involved and having better self knowledge I will be able to share an accurate picture of my health history with all my health care providers.

Why Health File™ is Important

We take responsibility for all other areas of our lives – our careers, bills, cars and the list goes on…  It only makes sense to focus attention on our health and the health of our family.  It not only makes sense but it is critical to our wellbeing to have a clear picture of our health history.  Our health care practioners have only one small glimpse of us – the file they have in their particular office. It is up to you to have your complete history at your fingertips.

The Solution

How confident are you that in case of an emergency you, or a loved one, would be able to access your entire medical history in a short time?  If you recognize yourself as someone who could benefit from this and other products by My Wise Guides, I invite you to visit www.mywiseguides.com

Be sure to join the mailing list so you can be the first to hear about new products as they are released.

If you feel this product is incredibly beneficial share this information with your family and friends.  Peace of mind is priceless.
